Tree Species Common in Wantirna
Every Wantirna property has its own tree mix. Here are the species we work on most across the suburb — knowing the species matters because pruning technique, permit thresholds, and risk profiles all differ by tree.
London Plane (Platanus x acerifolia)
Dominant planted street tree from Wantirna's 1970s-80s subdivision boom. Many now 40-50 years old and entering structural-decline age — proactive assessment recommended.
Silver Wattle (Acacia dealbata)
Indigenous to the Wantirna area. Fast-growing, relatively short-lived (~30 years) — often needs staged replacement.
Manna Gum (Eucalyptus viminalis)
Indigenous canopy tree on blocks backing onto reserves. Reaches 20-30m; canopy assessment mandatory.
Bottlebrush (Callistemon)
Widely planted in Wantirna gardens and streetscapes. Low-risk but benefits from post-flowering trim.
Yellow Box (Eucalyptus melliodora)
Indigenous remnant on larger blocks. VPO-protected in many locations.
