Hawthorn's streets around Grace Park, along Barkers Road, and the Yarra corridor include Boroondara's densest concentration of Federation and Edwardian heritage housing with mature garden tree stock. Our AQF Level 5 arborists cover Hawthorn on a same-week schedule for standard work, and prioritise same-day response for emergencies across the eastern suburbs.
Hawthorn sits under City of Boroondara. The tree control framework here is Boroondara Tree Protection Local Law 2024, plus Significant Tree Register, plus Clause 52.37.
Which threshold applies to your specific tree depends on the overlays mapped over your property and the tree's own dimensions. We check both before quoting, and we prepare permit-ready arborist reports in-house to AS 4970:2025 (protection of trees on development sites) and AS 4373-2007 (pruning of amenity trees).
Every Hawthorn property has its own tree mix. Here are the species we work on most across the suburb — knowing the species matters because pruning technique, permit thresholds, and risk profiles all differ by tree.

Yes. Boroondara explicitly requires a permit for canopy tree removal even when the tree is dead or is a recognised weed species. This is the sharp difference from most neighbouring councils. Under Clause 52.37, dead canopy trees are exempt — but Boroondara's Local Law overrides that with a stricter requirement.
Yes — larger Hawthorn heritage blocks often benefit from a whole-property tree audit. We walk every mature tree, document health, risk, Local Law and Significant Tree Register status, and provide a prioritised maintenance schedule. Useful for buyers, sellers, or long-term homeowners.
